Celebrate EARTH DAY in Palau
Event Date: 4/22
Celebrate Earth Day 2005 in Palau The Earth Day Committee, composed of several environmental agencies in Palau and chaired by the Palau Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB), has announced this year’s Earth Day theme: “Healthy Environment for Our Children” or “Ungil Lukel a Klengar el mora Rengeleked”. This year’s theme focuses on the importance of keeping Palau’s environment clean and healthy for our future generations. The theme refers to the value of maintaining environmental quality for both the health of the environment as well as for the health of our children, who are especially vulnerable to environmental contaminants. One of the main events for this year’s Earth Day will be an Earth Day Fair, which will take place at the Palau Community College parking lot and across the street at the Mobil Gas Station from 9am to 3pm on Friday, April 22. The fair will feature: • Environmental information booths • Fun environmental games and contests • An aluminum can and car battery recycling drive • Tree plantings by the President and several prominent Palauan leaders • An award ceremony for the recipients of the 2005 Environmental Excellence Awards and winners of the 2005 Earth Day Poster and Essay Contest Other Earth Day events include: • April 22: Dive-in to Earth Day (underwater trash cleanup), coordinated by Fish ‘n Fins • April 23-24: Peleliu Pedal Pushers Bike Race • April 30: Earth Day 5K Run/Trash-a-thon
