FEBRUARY 10, 2010

Executive Order 236-National Avian/Pandemic Influenza/Emerging/Re-Emerging Diseases Advisory & Coordination Team & Ministry of Health
Koror, Republic of Palau 96940

PANDEMIC H1N1 SCALE DOWN

Based on reports from the Bureau of Public Health Services,

  • The Office of Epidemiology finds that;
    • Last positive H1N1 case was detected in November 2009
    • No positive H1N1 detected since November 2009
    • Surveillance indicates low and/or no activities of flu like symptoms
    • No positive test results on Influenza A and B
  • The Emergency Health Program finds that;
    • H1N1 Mass Vaccination population coverage 39% (required 10%)
    • 40% vaccination coverage across population targets
    • 2nd dose of 0 - 9 years at 27%
    • Campaign is ongoing until JUNE 2010

With these findings and understanding that the global Pandemic is still a threat to the Republic, the Ministry of Health and the Palau National Avian/Pandemic Inluenza/Emerging/Re-Emerging Diseases Advisory & Coordination Team (Multi-Agency Taskforce) are recommending the following to scale down the H1N1 Pandemic Operations:

  • That all border control agencies continue routine operations but maintain vigilance at all points of entry
  •
  • That the Belau National Hospital resume routine operations to serve the public
  •
  • That the Bureau of Public Health continues its surveillance on the H1N1 and flu like symptoms
  •
  • That the Bureau of Public Health continues to maintain preparedness and readiness until global pandemic is scaled down
  •
  • That the Bureau of Public Health continues H1N1 Mass Vaccination Campaign until vaccines and/or funding are depleted
  •
  • That the Bureau of Public Health continues to retain and use the Alternative Care Sites (ACS) Old OEK-HOD building to establish a Wellness Center to serve the community.
